Redline Speed Worx is proud to present the build thread of our shop E46 M3. We have FINALLY decided it was time to build a BIG power BMW, and what better platform than that of the E46 M3.
Our Shop M3 will be receiving a complete Saad Racing Stage 3 Turbocharger system. The entire vehicle is currently being overhauled from a complete engine rebuild, drivetrain upgrades, braking system upgrades, suspension overhaul as well as the installation of a complete Pro EFI engine management system.

In addition to the Saad Racing Stage 3 System we are also installing a complete Pro EFI Engine Management System, which will take control of all the engine / drivability aspects of the vehicle. The Pro EFI 128 Pin ECU Kit is available for purchase directly through our web store!
The internals of our S54 engine is where we have chosen to start the complete overhaul of our M3. We have chosen nothing short of the best, and decided a set of Pauter I Beam Forged Connecting Rods with ARP Hardware was the only option.
OS Giken Triple Disc Assembly that will be able to put the M3's power to the ground, not to mention the abuse of both street & track driving.
In addition to OS Giken's Triple Disc we did also install their rear differential assembly, as it is one of the BEST solutions currently on the market. The rear end assembly was removed from the E46 with ease, and quickly broken down for inspection & a full rebuild.
Proper LSD installation is key for a long service life under the abuse we are going putting it through, not to mention 1000BHP with the aide of the Saad Racing Stage 3 Turbocharger System. The OS Giken LSD was fully re-shimmed, and the differential was complete rebuilt from the ground up with all OEM BMW parts.
One of the last components to arrive to the shop for the build of our M3 was the VAC Motorsports / ATI Vibration Dampener. This is a crucial component to the overall longevity of the S54 engine as it was included in the complete rotating assembly's balancing process.
The engine, turbocharger system, and drivetrain system upgrades we not the only area's of the BMW that had the attention of our expert eye. It would be near impossible to take complete advantage of all of these legit go fast parts without a proper suspension system. We opted for KW Suspension's Clubsport Coilover system for the M3 as we felt it to be the perfect solution to really dial the chassis in for both street & track use.
The S54 cylinder head on the E46 M3 is a GREAT unit direct from BMW, so there was not much that we had to do in terms of re-working it to suite our liking other than having a basic once over completed by our machine shop as well as installing a complete upgraded valve-train.
The block on the other hand was fully blue-printed, balanced, decked, and slightly over-bored to receive the 87.5MM pistons.
Let the engine assembly begin! First step was to check tolerances of the main bearings before the polished crankshaft was installed, not to mention start working over the upgraded ARP main stud kit.
With the crankshaft's axial run-out in spec it was fully installed and torque for final assembly.
With the crank fully locked down via ARP main studs it was time to get our rod & piston sets assembled, the piston rings filed, and the assemblies fitted into their respective cylinder bores. Now is the point where one is able to see if all their previous measurements & machine work have paid off, and in our case we were able to effortlessly fit the new forged internals without issue.
With all components double & tripled checked the assembly of our S54 short block was finally complete.
The bottom end of our motor was also upgraded with the VAC Motorsports High-Volume oil pump assembly.
This brings us to the point where we were now ready to complete assembly of our M3's long block, install the turbocharger system, and get everything back into the BMW. We will cover the remainder of this build in PART II of 1000HP OR BUST!
