Audi has been long known for producing vehicles that rank very high on the sleeper index. They always seem to find a way to take something normal, then make it very fast, and somehow manage to hardly let anybody know there is a difference.
To the trained eye there is a few tell tale signs, the chrome side view mirrors, the red sliver of the S line notification, the bulged fender flares, etc. always let us enthusiasts know when an Audi was special.
One of the latest additions to the already impressive S line within Audi is the SQ5. It’s half S4, half Q5, with what we think are the best aspects of both combined. The strength of the B8/8.5 S4 platform is its drivetrain, sure the car looks great but the supercharged V6 is the heart of the car. With the Q5, it’s not a particularly outstanding vehicle by any means, but given its competition within its class, it feels a little more nimble, a little more comfortable, and a little more refined then its competition.
Once you combine the engine of the S4, the transmission from the S6/S7 with the Chassis and Body of the Q5 you get the SQ5. One of our owners here at RSW has recently decided to make this their daily driver.
Of course, like anything that hangs around the shop too long it inevitable gets modified. The first upgrade was purely with a software flash from our Performance Partners at APR. Rather than go crazy with hard parts immediately, the owner decided to start with the highest bang for the buck modification right off the bat.
At $1,299.99 the software is on the more expensive end of the spectrum, but with peak gains of 98HP and 98FT/LBs. of torque the power gained per dollar spent provides exceptional value.
For those demanding more torque and power, The APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade is the answer. Spinning the supercharger faster increases air flow allowing for higher boost levels and more power. The gain in torque is felt immediately, but the results are present across the entire powerband. Expect 455 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque on 93 octane fuel! Software is included as a free upgrade for APR Stage I customers with the purchase of an APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade.
Look at how the gains are all the way from 2000 rpm all the way up to 7000, with gains increasing all threw the power band! I wonder if in time somebody here might get the itch to add a little more power with an APR Stage 2 ECU Upgrade + Supercharger Pulley install down the road!
